Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a Fiduciary? Do we act as a Fiduciary?
A fiduciary works in the best interest of the client and only recommends investments that are the best fit. Brokers, on the other hand, recommend products that are “suitable” — even if they’re not the lowest-cost or most ideal for you. And yes, we always put your interests first! We are legally, morally, ethically and emotionally obligated to prioritize your needs, and we are compensated in accordance with your success.
2. How do we get paid?
We get paid in a variety of ways.
For protective insurance products, a fee is paid to us by the insurance/annuity company for placing the product in place. As fiduciaries, we can use these products if we determine they align with your goals and make sense in your portfolio.
For investment management services, we charge a fee based on AUM, or assets under management. 1% is common, and discounts are available at higher asset levels.
We are also available and on-call for advice, which is part of a monthly subscription service. This gives you one hour each month to ask open-ended questions and get the answers you need.
3. What are the all-in costs?
In addition to paying the advisor for their services, there are fees and or charges associated with some of the investments, so costs will vary from client to client. We explain this to you in-depth and provide transparency, and we can provide an estimate for our services, as well as an explanation about how those services have the potential to enhance your portfolio.
4. What are your qualifications and experience?
Tami Aloisa has achieved five financial designations. Those include Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CFDA®), Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®), Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®), Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® (CRPC®) and Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®). Each of these gives her a certified level of expertise in unique areas of financial planning, and they qualify her to work with individuals who face specific obstacles. Tami also has 30 years of experience as an advisor and has worked for three major firms and on two military bases.
5. How will our relationship work?
We believe our relationship is both personal and professional. We have annual in-depth review meetings to connect on what’s new in your world. We review all portfolios monthly and do due diligence on the managers we choose. We respond to most emails and messages within 24 hours. We welcome you to reach out to us when you need help with big items and life-changing events occur. Your finances are important to you, and they’re important to us. That’s why we’re very responsive and address your questions immediately.
6. What's your investment philosophy?
We believe in picking what we believe to be great managers with histories of consistent returns over market cycles. We strive to deliver consistent results and keep you on track toward your goals!
Our typical clients are federal employees approaching retirement. We also help those considering divorce find a fair and equitable way of keeping their legal costs down and landing more dollars in the hands of both parties.
7. What asset allocation will you use?
We start everyone off with a Morningstar Risk Tolerance questionnaire. This gives us an idea of the level of risk you are comfortable with and helps us design a diversified portfolio to fit that level. We can incorporate a multitude of investment and insurance options to suit your unique needs.
8. What do I get working with you?
As a client at LTP, you will get complimentary access to the Emoney Advisor Dashboard to track all of your investments in one place. This tool serves as a platform for us to model the results of different scenarios and show historic performance, all while hosting your finances on one simple-to-use platform.
9. Who is your custodian?
We use Raymond James and Charles Schwab.
10. What tax hit do I face if I invest with you?
Part of our mission is keeping your tax obligation as low as possible, and we consider taxes in each decision we make. We can discuss the tax ramifications of different investments and help you estimate your net return.
